Jim Pfleger suggested an idea (#1381) · May 16, 2017 at 02:59 PM · shell
As a shell developer, I want to add behavior to existing shells, so I can create the behavior I want without recreating or interfering with existing behavior.
There should a standard, supported method to add behavior to existing shells. Currently we need to clone and modify the existing shell repos, and deal with merge conflicts when new versions are released. Instead we want a Quali-supported method for adding behavior with minimal impact, e.g. subclassing, hooks.
Current shells have a Runner and Flows infrastructure, so it would be best if we could make our own Flows and add them to existing Runners.

Hi Jim, that's a good point, we're working on better formalizing the standard for extending 2nd generation Shells - hope to have this in the Dev Guide soon. We would also like to gradually add product capabilities that would make Shell extension faster and easier. Thanks! Maya

Hi,
I want to update that in CloudShell 8.2 we added a new flow to ShellFoundry for extending existing shells, along with documentation in our devguide regarding shell customization and technical details about our official shells. We still don't support automatic merge of customizations or dedicated places for customizations that won't get overridden on upgrade. Those additions are in our backlog.
Thanks,
Alona.
